Former SBP Governor Dr. Shamshad Akhtar Passes Away
Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the first female governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, has passed away. Serving as the 14th governor from January 2006, she was recognized for her significant contributions to the country's economy and financial management, as well as her role in promoting regional economic cooperation during her tenure with the United Nations ESCAP. Condolences have been expressed by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who acknowledged her invaluable services to Pakistan.

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the first female governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), passed away. She served as the 14th governor starting January 2, 2006, and was recognized for her leadership in both national and international financial institutions.
Akhtar was also a former executive secretary of the United Nations ESCAP, where she promoted regional economic cooperation in Asia and the Pacific. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed their condolences, highlighting her contributions to Pakistan's economy and financial management.
The Prime Minister noted her role in stabilizing the country's economy and improving the financial sector. Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also extended condolences, acknowledging her invaluable services to Pakistan in economics.
