DEFENSE

Former University of Florida President Ben Sasse announced he has stage-four pancreatic cancer, stating in a post on X that he is 'gonna die.' Sasse, who became UF's 13th president in 2022, shared his diagnosis publicly on December 23, 2023.

He was inaugurated in November 2023 after UF was ranked the No. 1 public university in the U.S. Sasse's presidency included commitments to practical majors and tenure defense. He resigned in July 2024 following his wife's epilepsy diagnosis.

His tenure included a contentious incident during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in April 2024, which resulted in multiple arrests. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis commended the university for maintaining order during the event.
