Fort Worth Begins Construction on Panther Island Bypass Channel Amid Federal Funding Challenges
DEFENSE
Construction on the northern section of the Panther Island bypass channel in Fort Worth will commence late this year, following federal funding disputes that caused previous delays. The $1.16 billion project aims to reroute the Trinity River and maintain its completion by 2032.
The Tarrant Regional Water District estimates a need for $543 million in federal funding for ongoing flood control projects. Construction contracts for the southern bypass will be finalized by next year, contingent on available funds from the north channel.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is involved in the project's design and construction.
