Forth Ports Expands Offshore Wind Operations Amid Growth in Scotland's Ports Sector
Forth Ports is expanding its offshore wind operations, highlighted by the arrival of XXL monopiles for the Inch Cape project and the launch of the Forth Green Freeport initiative. With a £150 million investment in renewables, the initiative aims to attract £7.9 billion in investment and create 34,000 jobs, while the Port of Leith enhances its role as a renewables hub. The cruise tourism sector is also expected to see a 15% increase in calls for 2026, alongside stable container traffic.

In 2025, Forth Ports experienced significant growth, marked by the arrival of large offshore wind foundations and government approval for the Forth Green Freeport initiative. Derek Knox, appointed Regional Director in March 2025, oversees seven Scottish ports, including Leith and Dundee.
The Port of Leith received its first XXL monopiles for the Inch Cape offshore wind project, which involves 72 turbines and represents a 1.1GW capacity. Forth Ports has invested £150 million in its renewables business, enhancing Leith as a renewables hub.
The Green Freeport initiative, supported by £25 million in funding, targets offshore wind and hydrogen, expected to generate £7.9 billion in investment and 34,000 jobs. Container traffic remained stable, with whisky and seed potatoes as key exports.
The cruise tourism sector anticipates a 15% increase in calls for 2026. Forth Ports emphasizes infrastructure, skills development, and policy certainty for future growth.
