Fraunhofer HNFIZ is establishing the Chip AI research and innovation center in Heilbronn, funded by the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, to enhance Germany's capabilities in AI chip design. The center will begin operations in 2026 and aims to develop innovative chip designs for AI applications.

It will focus on creating high-performance semiconductor chips and improving chip design efficiency through AI automation. Collaboration with IPAI and other Fraunhofer institutes will support advancements in neuromorphic hardware architectures and ensure the safe application of AI in critical industries. The center will be the ninth within the Fraunhofer network in Heilbronn, enhancing local technological innovations.
