Fraunhofer IPMS Launches Li-Fi Grathus for Industrial Data Transmission
The Li-Fi Grathus system enables high-speed optical data connections, achieving speeds over 1 Gbit/s for industrial applications. This technology addresses limitations of traditional wired and wireless systems, providing reliable communication in challenging environments.

The Li-Fi Grathus system, developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems, transmits industrial data via light at speeds exceeding 1 Gbit/s over distances up to 10 meters. It features deterministic latency under 100 nanoseconds, crucial for applications such as robotics and precision control.
This technology is immune to electromagnetic interference, supports full-duplex communication, and is compatible with industrial standards like Profinet and EtherCat. Its installation requires no adjustments, enhancing flexibility in production environments.
The system is now available as an evaluation kit, allowing easy integration into existing Ethernet networks. Potential applications include motion control, logistics systems, and connections for automated guided vehicles.
