French LNG Tanker Gaselys to Unload Russian LNG at Everett Terminal Despite Sanctions
The Gaselys tanker is expected to unload a shipment of liquid natural gas from a blacklisted Russian company at Engie SA's Everett terminal near Boston. The LNG was sourced from Russia's Yamal LNG project and was sold to Engie by Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Berhad. Although Yamal LNG and its majority owner, Novatek, are blacklisted by the U.S., the cargo's ownership transition to a French company allows its delivery to the U.S. without violating sanctions.

The Gaselys tanker, carrying liquid natural gas sourced from Russia's Yamal LNG, is set to unload at Engie SA's Everett LNG import terminal near Boston. The shipment, which has been in Massachusetts Bay since January 24, was delayed but is expected to arrive shortly.
While Yamal LNG and its majority owner Novatek are blacklisted by the U.S., the LNG's ownership by French company Engie allows for legal delivery. This event marks an unprecedented arrival of Russian LNG at the Everett terminal. New U.S. sanctions against Russia were announced on the same day, targeting individuals and entities to increase pressure on the Russian government.
