French Navy Upgrades Mistral-class LHDs with CAT EYE H20 EO/IR Systems
The French Navy has equipped its Mistral-class LHDs with CAT EYE H20 electro-optic/infrared systems to enhance detection capabilities against various threats. This experiment evaluates the CAT EYE H20's effectiveness for naval use, as it has previously been deployed on land.
The system features day/night surveillance, advanced image processing, and can operate in low visibility conditions. It reportedly has a range of up to 20 km at night and 40 km during the day. The French Navy is also working with Lerity to adapt the sensor for naval applications.
Additionally, the French Navy is integrating TRAKKA Systems' likely TC-375M EO/IR system on the Dixmude LHD. This upgrade follows previous enhancements across the fleet, including the installation of Safran's Paseo XLR system on FREMM frigates and Horizon destroyers to address rising threats from unmanned vehicles.
