French Start-ups Jimmy Energy and Calogena Secure €180m for Small Modular Reactor Development
Jimmy Energy and Calogena, French nuclear start-ups, have obtained a total of €180m ($210m) in funding to finalize small modular reactor (SMR) designs as part of the France 2030 investment plan. Jimmy Energy secured €80m, combining private equity and public support, to develop a helium-cooled micro-reactor with a design life of 20 years, targeting European industrial applications by 2029.
Calogena received €100m, including a grant from the France 2030 initiative, to accelerate the industrialization of its CAL30 low-pressure water boiler aimed for district heating networks, with deployment starting in 2030. Both companies are positioned to contribute to France's nuclear innovation goals.
