FY26 Defense Bill Approves $838.7B Budget, Ignores $28B Munitions Request
House and Senate appropriators agreed on an $838.7 billion defense budget for FY26, increasing defense funds by $8.4 billion over the Pentagon's request. The bill does not include a $28.8 billion multiyear munitions procurement request, allocating only $1.8 billion for munitions.
Key funding provisions include $500 million for solid rocket motors, $1.1 billion for E-7 Wedgetail radar planes, and $897 million for the Navy's F/A-XX fighter. The Army's agile funding request was denied, with cuts to several programs, while $400 million was added to Ukraine assistance. The appropriations bill also allocates $642 million for the Space Force's procurement budget, amid scrutiny of the Space Force's reliance on the NRO.
