Ganga Expressway: India's First Night-Landing Expressway for Military Aircraft
The Ganga Expressway, running through Meerut and Prayagraj, is India's first expressway that allows military fighter aircraft to land at night. This expressway, part of India's expanding network of high-speed roads, has been developed with strategic defense capabilities, including a night-landing airstrip in Shahjahanpur.
It has successfully conducted night-landing trials with various Air Force jets, including Rafale, Mirage 2000, and Jaguar aircraft. The expressway spans nearly 600 kilometers and is set to open for public use soon, enhancing the defense infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh, which also hosts other expressways such as the Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways that only support daytime landings.
