Gas Networks Ireland will hold a community event on February 26 in Kildysart regarding the Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve (SGER) project. The SGER, approved in March 2025, aims to enhance Ireland's energy security amid the transition to renewable energy, using a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) for liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage. Local stakeholders can engage with the project team to discuss concerns and project timelines.

Gas Networks Ireland is hosting a community event on February 26 at Kildysart Community Centre to discuss the Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve (SGER) project. Cahiracon was selected as the site for the SGER, approved by the government in March 2025, to enhance energy security during the transition to renewable energy.
The reserve will utilize a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) to store and convert LNG. The project aims to address reliance on imported gas and ensure supply during emergencies. Local engagement is ongoing, with a Community Liaison Officer to be appointed. Concerns have been raised by Futureproof Clare regarding the project's democratic processes and potential impacts on local developments.
