Gas Supply Disruption from OML 18 Affects Power Supply in Nine Abia LGAs
Aba Power warns of reduced electricity supply for nine LGAs in Abia State due to natural gas delivery disruptions from Heirs Energies' OML 18. The load shedding will begin Thursday and may last up to four days, linked to an unexpected adjustment in Heirs Energies’ 2026 maintenance schedule. The Aba Ring-fence, reliant on this gas supply, faces stability challenges. Analysts suggest the situation could have been worse without expedited technical interventions.

Electricity supply will be reduced in nine LGAs of Abia State, starting Thursday, due to disrupted natural gas deliveries to the Geometric Power Plant. Heirs Energies, which operates Oil Mining Licence 18 (OML 18), is the source of this gas.
The disruption is attributed to an unexpected change in Heirs Energies' maintenance schedule for 2026, potentially causing load shedding for up to four days. The infrastructure at OML 18 has suffered significant degradation, requiring extensive rehabilitation. Industry analysts note that the situation could have resulted in longer outages without accelerated technical efforts from Heirs Energies.
