GE Aerospace Invests $42 Million to Enhance Massachusetts Defense Sector
Massachusetts has secured a $42 million investment from GE Aerospace to strengthen its defense industry and advanced manufacturing capabilities. This initiative aligns with the SHIELD program, which aims to foster military innovation and job creation through strategic public-private partnerships.

The Healey-Driscoll administration has announced a significant investment of $42 million from GE Aerospace to boost the defense industry in Massachusetts. This funding complements the Massachusetts Strategic Hub for Innovation, Exchange and Leadership in Defense (SHIELD), which launched on November 7, 2025, with a $47 million state investment aimed at military innovation and manufacturing.
SHIELD's objectives include enhancing supply chain resilience and creating jobs through research and partnerships. An Executive Order established the SHIELD Working Group to advise on advancing defense research. State agencies have been directed to explore new support methods for the defense sector, emphasizing the collaboration between private investments and public funding to strengthen the state's industrial capacity and national security solutions.
