GE to Supply 20 F404 Engines Annually to HAL Starting FY 2026
General Electric (GE) Aerospace has committed to supplying 20 F404 engines annually to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) beginning in financial year 2026. This agreement supports India's 'Make in India' initiative and addresses supply chain challenges faced by HAL in delivering TEJAS MK-1A aircraft.
Under a 2021 deal, GE is licensed to manufacture F404-IN20 engines through HAL, with a goal of 80% indigenisation. The production commitment aligns with HAL's objectives to build 16-24 TEJAS MK-1A jets annually and mitigates previous engine shortages.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to induct 83 TEJAS MK-1A aircraft under a ₹48,000 crore contract. This partnership is expected to enhance India's aerospace capabilities, generating over 1,000 jobs and supporting future programs like the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).
