Gelderland Allocates €7.8 Million for Green Gas Installation in Duiven
Waterschap Rijn en IJssel secures €7.8 million from Gelderland for a green gas facility, marking the first project in the Veluwe nitrogen reduction initiative. This investment supports the broader goals of nature restoration and nitrogen output reduction across the region.

Waterschap Rijn en IJssel will construct a green gas facility at the wastewater treatment plant in Duiven, funded by €7.8 million from Gelderland. This project is part of the Aanpak Veluwe, which aims to restore nature and reduce nitrogen emissions.
The facility will convert biogas from sewage sludge into green gas, sufficient to supply approximately 2,650 households annually and reduce NOx emissions by about 2,400 kilograms. Gelderland previously allocated €300 million for the Veluwe initiative, mirroring a similar investment for De Peel region.
The construction is expected to start by mid-September, with significant investments planned for the local wastewater facility to enhance processing capabilities. This initiative aligns with broader environmental goals and could facilitate future permits and economic growth.
