GenCell Partners with San Diego Gas & Electric for Fuel Cell Backup Power Systems

GenCell has formed a partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) to install 30 GenCell G5rx fuel cell backup power systems at SDG&E substations in California. This initiative aims to enhance the reliability of power during grid outages, allowing substations to maintain operational modes for breakers and controls.

The GenCell G5rx can charge utility backup batteries and sustain them for up to 10 times longer than conventional systems, ensuring quick power restoration for customers. The G5rx produces 5 kW of steady power and supports 'black start' operations, which negates the need for diesel generators. GenCell's Network Operations Center system enables remote monitoring and maintenance, positioning the G5rx as a viable alternative to high-maintenance diesel solutions.
