George West City Council Approves Police Vehicle Purchase and Contracts

DEFENSE

The George West City Council convened on December 16 to approve various contracts and purchases, including a Chevrolet Tahoe for the Police Department at $53,537 to enhance vehicle availability for officers. The council tabled the decision on terminating the contract with the Old Marbach School Water Board, pending further discussions, as the existing contract has expired.

No action was taken regarding additional parking for the Live Oak County Courthouse due to the absence of representatives. The council also decided to postpone the review of the City of George West Personnel Manual until the next meeting.

A measure was approved to suspend hourly wage increases for city employees unless specifically authorized by the council, aimed at improving financial oversight. Additionally, the council approved appointed positions, conducted a performance evaluation of City Secretary D'Ann Lane, and raised her salary to $65,000. Other approvals included a contract with the Defense Logistics Agency and Police Chief Nathaniel Valverde's off-duty employment at The Dancing Elk.
