Georges River Council Updates Planning Controls for Moomba-Sydney Gas Pipeline
Georges River Council is advancing updated planning controls for the Moomba-Sydney gas pipeline to reflect a newly identified lower risk profile. The proposal will ease previous restrictions, allowing for residential development within 200 meters of the pipeline while requiring sensitive land uses to be referred to the NSW Planning Secretary. If approved, the proposal will be submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for Gateway Determination.

Georges River Council is updating planning controls for the Moomba-Sydney gas pipeline, reflecting a lower risk profile after the pipeline's change to carrying only natural gas. The Planning Proposal will reduce previous restrictions, allowing residential developments within 200 meters of the pipeline.
While there are no restrictions on homes, sensitive land uses like childcare centers and aged care facilities must be reviewed by the NSW Planning Secretary before development applications can be processed. The proposal is pending council approval before it advances to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for Gateway Determination.
