Georgia Enacts Ban on Specific Single-Use Plastics Effective April 1, 2026
Georgia will prohibit the sale of specific single-use plastic items from April 1, 2026, following an earlier ban on their production and import. This legislation aims to reduce plastic waste and enhance environmental protection within the state.

Effective April 1, 2026, Georgia will ban the sale of plastic forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks, plates, straws, drink stirrers, as well as food containers made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and their lids. The import and production of these items were already banned starting January 1, 2026.
Additionally, public institutions under state procurement regulations will not be able to purchase plastic cups, containers, and beverages in plastic bottles up to 3 liters, with exemptions for Defense Forces needs. Violations of this ban will incur fines of GEL 1,000 for first offenses and GEL 2,000 for repeat offenses, alongside product confiscation. The National Food Agency, the Department of Environmental Supervision, and the Revenue Service will oversee compliance.
