Germany and India Sign Defense and Resource Cooperation Agreements
Germany and India have signed 27 cooperation agreements, including a significant defense collaboration aimed at reducing India's reliance on Russian arms. Notable initiatives include Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems' plan to build six submarines in Mumbai and a memorandum between the German Ministry of Economy and India's Ministry of Mines to collaborate on critical minerals. Additional agreements cover sectors such as healthcare, AI, and semiconductor innovation.

Germany and India have signed multiple cooperation agreements, including a defense industry collaboration, during Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to Ahmedabad. The defense ministries agreed to enhance cooperation, with India seeking to reduce its reliance on Russian arms, which currently account for 36% of its imports.
Notably, Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems aims to build six submarines in Mumbai, valued at €8 billion. Additionally, the German Ministry of Economy signed a memorandum with India's Ministry of Mines to collaborate on critical minerals.
Other agreements include recruiting Indian healthcare professionals and establishing a center for AI and semiconductor innovation. Uniper signed a contract to purchase up to 500,000 tons of ammonia annually from AM Green. In total, 27 agreements were signed, covering various sectors, including youth hockey development and knowledge exchange programs.
