Germany and Poland Launch Renewable Cross-Border Heating System
The United Heat project will utilize renewable energy to replace traditional fossil fuel sources, significantly cutting carbon emissions. This initiative highlights cross-border collaboration in energy systems, aiming for climate neutrality by 2030.

The United Heat project will replace fossil fuel sources in Görlitz and Zgorzelec with renewable systems, primarily heat pumps, biomass, and solar thermal energy. The initiative includes power-to-heat technology, pit thermal energy storage, and sewage gas waste heat, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 50,000 metric tons annually.
A 3.8km pipeline will connect Zgorzelec and Görlitz, complemented by 12km of pipelines uniting previously separate German networks. Stadtwerke Görlitz and SEC Zgorzelec, along with Drees & Sommer, are leading the management of this project, which is critical for achieving climate-neutral heat supply by 2030.
