Germany Considers State Guarantees for LNG Imports from Argentina
The German government is evaluating state guarantees to support LNG imports from Argentina, specifically related to a project in Rio Negro province. The guarantees are intended for unbound financial loans, primarily for foreign resource projects. A partnership is likely with Sefe and Southern Energy for LNG supply starting from 2027, amounting to up to two million tons annually. The gas will be sourced from Vaca Muerta and shipped via two floating terminals. The proposal's viability is debated, especially concerning its alignment with climate goals.

The German government is considering state guarantees for LNG imports from Argentina, linked to a project in Rio Negro province. The Federal Ministry of Economics confirmed this in response to a parliamentary inquiry.
The guarantees would cover unbound financial loans, aimed at mitigating economic and political risks for foreign resource projects. A new partnership between state-owned Sefe and Southern Energy is likely, with Sefe planning to import up to two million tons of LNG annually starting in 2027.
The gas will be extracted from Vaca Muerta and shipped through two terminals in Golfo San Matias. The necessity of state backing is debated due to Argentina's economic instability. The current government aims to relax previous climate assessment guidelines for such guarantees.
