Germany has initiated the Textile Factory 7.0 program to modernize textile manufacturing using AI, robotics, and biotechnology. Led by ITA at RWTH Aachen University and funded by the German Federal Ministry, the facility in Mönchengladbach will focus on sustainable production, on-demand models, and workforce training, aiming to enhance productivity and reduce emissions in the textile sector.

Germany has launched the Textile Factory 7.0 initiative to modernize textile manufacturing through AI, robotics, and biotechnology. Led by Institut für Textiltechnik at RWTH Aachen University, the project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research and will be located in Mönchengladbach.
This initiative aims to establish a live production environment for testing digital production systems and biotechnology-based materials, enhancing resource use and operational performance. It supports on-demand production and microfactory development, aligning with Europe’s strategy to reduce supply chain vulnerabilities. The initiative also emphasizes skills development to strengthen the advanced manufacturing capabilities of the German textile sector.
