Germany is set to potentially increase its inventory of Heckler & Koch G95 rifles to 500,000, enhancing capabilities for its active and reserve military forces. This follows a procurement acceleration initiated with the first order placed in May 2025 and a recent Bundestag decision to expand the framework ceiling for rifles from 118,718 to 250,000.
The G95A1 and G95KA1, designed to use the NATO 5.56 mm cartridge, are equipped for both normal and suppressed firing. The rifles differ mainly in barrel length, with the G95KA1 shorter and lighter, making it suitable for mechanized infantry.
The complete package, including optics and laser modules, raises the total cost to approximately €2.01 billion, averaging €8,050 per set. This inventory strategy aims to ensure adequate supply for operational units and reserve forces amid rising personnel levels.
