Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has chosen 38 projects from 12 federal states for the Important Project of Common European Interest on Advanced Semiconductor Technologies, set to start matchmaking in March 2026. The initiative addresses Europe's need for technological independence in semiconductor production, with selected projects covering photonically integrated circuits, advanced chips, and modern manufacturing techniques.
Approximately one-third of the selected firms are startups and SMEs. The German contribution will receive over €3 billion from a special infrastructure and climate fund, with co-financing discussions ongoing with federal states. Matchmaking will begin on March 25-26, 2026, with further program development planned for summer 2026, leading to a state aid review by the European Commission by year-end.
