GH2 Green Ammonia Project in Bordeaux Stalled Due to Financing Issues
The GH2 project in Bordeaux aimed to produce green ammonia and synthetic fuels by 2027 but is currently at a standstill. Project leaders Franck Chessé and Thierry Robustelly secured 50 hectares for the facility, planned to utilize 100 MW and later 300 MW electrolysis for ammonia production. Despite regional support, the project has not commenced construction or secured its €250 million funding, which is essential for the first phase.

The GH2 project in Bordeaux, intended to produce green ammonia and synthetic fuels on a 50-hectare site by 2027, has stalled. Project leaders Franck Chessé and Thierry Robustelly aimed to use green hydrogen to address France's dependency on imported ammonia, which accounts for a third of its consumption.
Despite plans for a 100 MW and later 300 MW electrolyzer, the project has not started construction or secured its estimated €250 million financing. After six years since establishment and three years following regional support, the project remains inactive, with analysts suggesting it may cease altogether.
