Ghana Develops Indigenous AeriusPro UAV to Enhance National Security and Military Capability

DEFENSE

Ghana has developed the AeriusPro unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), marking a significant advancement in its military capabilities and technological sovereignty. The AeriusPro will be operational in areas like Bawku and Binduri for surveillance against communal tensions and cross-border threats, reducing reliance on imported drones.

The 93 Signal Regiment collaborates with the Army Special Brigade and Northern Command to ensure effective command integration and data management. The UAV features a hybrid design for versatile operations in remote areas and integrates with the Sigtrack C4ISR platform for real-time intelligence.

Ghana's defense budget is set to increase from GHS 3.9 billion in 2024 to GHS 10.8 billion by 2026, focusing on military modernization, infrastructure, and housing for troops. While defense spending has limited direct economic impact, it fosters stability and investor confidence, essential for sustainable growth.
