Gig Harbor to Award Contractor Bids for Homeport Project Completion by Year-End
Gig Harbor is moving forward with the Commercial Fishing Homeport project, seeking contractor bids in spring 2025 and aiming for completion by year-end. The project, which includes a public dock for 17 commercial fishing boats at Ancich Waterfront Park, has a budget of $3,480,000, supported by donations and grants. An updated mitigation plan from the Army Corps of Engineers has been accepted, paving the way for prefabrication work to begin in summer 2025.

The city of Gig Harbor is progressing towards the completion of the Commercial Fishing Homeport project, with contractor bids expected to be sought in spring 2025. Prefabrication work is planned for summer 2025, aiming for project completion by the end of the year.
The Homeport, proposed 13 years ago, will feature a public dock for 17 commercial fishing boats, each 60 to 70 feet long, at Ancich Waterfront Park. The total project budget is $3,480,000, funded through various sources including a $200,000 donation from the Gig Harbor Commercial Fishermen's Club and a $200,000 grant from the Port of Tacoma.
The Army Corps of Engineers has accepted an updated mitigation plan, which includes stormwater management modifications and the removal of Jerkovich Pier. The city plans to present further details at a spring hearing examiner meeting.
