GMB Union Critiques Green Party on Nuclear Energy Ahead of Welsh Elections
The GMB Union has voiced opposition to the Green Party's anti-nuclear stance, emphasizing the potential for job creation and net zero compliance through nuclear power in Wales. Employment in the nuclear sector has declined significantly, highlighting the urgent need for new developments.

The GMB Union has criticized the Green Party of England and Wales for opposing nuclear power as discussions on energy policy escalate prior to the Welsh elections. The union asserts that new nuclear projects could generate thousands of jobs in South Wales, directly linking job creation to the advancement of nuclear energy in the region.
Current figures indicate around 827 individuals are employed in the Welsh nuclear industry, down 40% from 2014. This decline is primarily attributed to decommissioning activities at sites like Wylfa and Trawsfynydd. Proposals for new nuclear developments are anticipated to provide substantial employment opportunities, yet the contrasting political views on nuclear energy may complicate the electoral discourse.
