GomSpace Joins SATSOL Project to Enhance European Space Solar Supply Chain
GomSpace has committed MSEK 3.3 to the SATSOL project, a three-year initiative funded by Innovation Fund Denmark, totaling MSEK 21.9. This initiative seeks to develop low-cost, high-efficiency solar modules to alleviate supply constraints in space-qualified solar cells.

GomSpace is participating in the SATSOL project, which aims to establish a production line in Denmark for silicon photovoltaic modules tailored for space applications. Led by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the project includes partners METR and Nice Visions, and is designed to create an alternative to gallium arsenide solar cells, which face manufacturing limitations.
The project’s objective includes achieving ESA Technology Readiness Level 5 (TRL5) for the developed solar module. The consortium held its kick-off meeting on April 10, marking the official start of the project, which aligns with GomSpace's focus on enhancing European space supply chains and satellite technology scalability. The successful execution of this project could mitigate supply chain risks in the rapidly evolving satellite market.
