Google, Amazon, and Canadian Firms Invest in U.S. Nuclear and Fusion Energy Developments

Google has invested in Commonwealth Fusion Systems for future fusion power in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Canadian Nuclear Laboratories received $33 million from Atomic Energy of Canada, while Ontario Power Generation allocated $19.5 million and Stellarex added $39 million for fusion research.

New Jersey's Thea Energy aims to commercialize a fusion reactor within a decade, supported by Amazon Web Services. The U.S. faces challenges in nuclear expansion, with 11 states imposing restrictions on new plants.

Recent federal efforts, including DOE’s Loan Guarantee Office, prioritize new nuclear projects, aiming for 300 GW of capacity by 2050. The LPO is offering up to $1.52 billion for the Palisades reactor restart, projected to produce 800 MW.
