GOP Lawmakers Push to End Gun Ban at Army Corps Recreation Sites
A group of 24 House Republicans seeks to lift firearm restrictions in Army Corps-managed recreation areas. They urge Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to implement 2020 proposals that would align these regulations with state laws, impacting over 11.7 million acres of public land.

Twenty-four House Republicans are advocating for the Army Corps of Engineers to revoke its firearm carry restrictions on recreation areas. The lawmakers, led by Rep. Pat Fallon, argue that the Corps remains the only major federal agency to maintain such prohibitions, which they claim creates confusion for gun owners navigating across multiple jurisdictions.
The Corps manages over 95,000 campsites and 3,700 boat launches across more than 400 projects in 43 states. A proposed rule change in 2020, which received significant public support, was halted by regulatory changes under the Biden administration. The group has requested an update on the status of this proposal, emphasizing the need for consistency with other federal agencies.
