Greece Aims to Become a Key Shipbuilding Hub in the Eastern Mediterranean
Greece's strategic position and expanding shipping industry present an opportunity to establish itself as a shipbuilding center. This initiative could lead to significant economic growth, job creation, and enhanced energy security in the region.

Greece seeks to establish itself as a shipbuilding hub for the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeastern Europe, and the Black Sea. The Hellenic Shipyards Association president highlighted that strategic partnerships, including a collaboration with South Korea's Hanwha Group, are vital for technology transfer and advancing local shipbuilding capabilities.
A projected growth rate of 6-8% for the shipbuilding sector could contribute up to 2% to Greece's GDP, generating thousands of high-skilled jobs. The annual turnover for the ecosystem may reach €3 billion, with a goal of 50% of production allocated for exports, enhancing Greece's role in European defense and energy infrastructure.
