Greek and British Firms Propose Unmanned Surface Vessels to Hellenic Navy

DEFENSE

SAS Technology and Sigmund Naval & Marine Ltd, with Concept Marine Group, presented a proposal for unmanned surface vessels (USVs) to the Hellenic Navy and Coast Guard. This initiative aims to bolster Greece's maritime capabilities amid shifting power dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly in response to Turkey's development of armed unmanned vessels.

The USV designs, ranging from 7 to over 30 meters, feature advanced composite materials and can transport personnel while operating in adverse sea conditions. The vessels can reach speeds of 30 to 70+ knots and are equipped with surveillance systems, secure communications, and autonomous operation capabilities. The program also plans to establish a composite materials facility and a dedicated USV shipyard in Greece, enhancing local technological development and manufacturing capabilities.
