Greenwood Council Approves Wildland Fire Truck Purchase Amid Budget Concerns
Greenwood's City Council approved the acquisition of a $25,000 Wildland III Fire Truck for the Volunteer Fire Department, alongside additional costs for equipment upgrades. Budgetary clarity and the truck's suitability raised concerns during discussions, highlighting the fire department's ongoing financial challenges and the need for effective resource management.

The Greenwood City Council approved the purchase of a Wildland III Fire Truck for $25,000, including $7,000 for a new pump and decals, and $1,500 for modifying the current First Responder truck. Concerns were raised by Councillor Gerry Shaw regarding budget clarity and the truck's condition, particularly its age and capacity compared to existing equipment.
Chief Financial Officer James Sexton explained the funding would come from unspent budget surpluses, as the fire department has lacked a reserve for years. Concerns about the effectiveness of a two-door truck versus a four-door vehicle were also discussed, with the Council emphasizing the importance of having functional equipment in preparation for a potentially severe wildfire season. The purchase aims to enhance operational response capabilities despite its limitations.
