On December 5, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a small arms training range north of Hawthorne, Nevada, attended by U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, U.S.
Sen. Jacky Rosen, Brig. Gen.
Randy Lau of the Nevada Army National Guard, and other officials. This project, initially delayed until 2030, was fast-tracked by the U.S. Army and is expected to be completed by 2026.
The $20 million facility will feature 16 rifle lanes, 15 pistol lanes, and four machine gun lanes, making it the only approved Department of the Army qualifications range in Nevada. Prior to this, Nevada soldiers traveled out of state for training, costing units approximately half a million dollars. The new range will alleviate these expenses and meet stringent Army qualification standards, enhancing local training capabilities.
