Groundbreaking Ceremony for Two Solar Storage Projects Near Kirtland, New Mexico
Two significant solar projects, Foxtail Flats and Four Mile Mesa, are set to deliver 270 MW of solar energy and 180 MW of storage by spring 2027. Developed by DESRI, these projects involve collaboration among tribal and local entities, marking a pivotal investment in New Mexico's renewable energy landscape.

A groundbreaking event on May 14 celebrated the launch of the Foxtail Flats and Four Mile Mesa solar and storage projects near Kirtland, New Mexico. Together, these facilities will generate 270 megawatts of solar energy and 180 megawatts of battery storage under 20-year power purchase agreements with local utilities.
The projects are built nearly entirely on Ute Mountain Ute land and are expected to be operational by spring 2027. The construction will create approximately 600 jobs, supporting local economic growth.
The collaboration illustrates a commitment to renewable energy and stewardship of ancestral lands. This initiative follows the closure of the nearby San Juan Generating Station in 2022, emphasizing the transition to sustainable energy sources in the region.
