Groundbreaking for $2.3B I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge Project Commences
The $2.3 billion I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge project has begun, aiming to replace a 75-year-old structure by 2030. This initiative is crucial for enhancing infrastructure to support rising traffic and economic growth in southwest Louisiana.

The I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge project, valued at $2.3 billion, officially commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by state and federal officials. The new bridge will accommodate an average daily traffic increase from 30,000 vehicles in 1952 to an expected 90,000, addressing significant regional growth.
Construction is projected to complete in 2031, with major work beginning shortly. The project includes 5.5 miles of I-10 reconstruction, additional travel lanes, and new pedestrian and cyclist facilities. This infrastructure upgrade is critical for supporting the economic growth of the region, particularly for the LNG export sector.
