Guinea Restores Social Media Access After Temporary Ban
Guinea has lifted a temporary ban on social media, restoring access for its citizens. This decision follows concerns over the spread of harmful content but highlights potential risks of reinstating restrictions during upcoming elections.

Guinea's communications regulator had previously expressed concerns regarding unverified information and harmful messages, which contributed to the social media shutdown. The country is led by Mamady Doumbouya, a former army general, who came to power after a coup in 2021 and was elected in a controversial vote excluding major opposition figures.
Following the ban's lift, ABLOGUI President Baro Conde welcomed the development for civil liberties but warned of possible future restrictions, especially during election periods. This situation could affect political discourse and civil rights in the lead-up to future elections.
