Gurugram Launches Bioremediation Project to Mitigate Waste Management Issues
A bioremediation pilot project has been initiated in Gurugram to tackle waste management and reduce landfill dependence. This initiative, utilizing microbes for waste treatment, aims to address environmental concerns linked to the Bandhwari landfill.

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister launched a bioremediation pilot project in Gurugram, aimed at reducing reliance on the Bandhwari landfill. This project employs microorganisms to decompose legacy waste, addressing environmental issues such as foul odors and methane emissions.
Additionally, a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) was established, alongside a project to supply treated wastewater to 170 parks. The success of this bioremediation technology could significantly alleviate waste management pressures. The Minister emphasized the need for comprehensive environmental action, including pollution control and public participation in sustainability efforts.
