Guyana's GTE Project to Reach 300MW Capacity by Mid-2027, Delaying Electricity Cost Reductions

The Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project in Guyana will not reach its full capacity of 300 megawatts until mid-2027, as revealed by consultant Winston Brassington. The contractor, Lindsayca, is expected to deliver 228MW from a simple-cycle configuration by the end of 2026.
The full 300MW output will only be available in 2027, raising concerns about the government's commitment to cut electricity costs by 50%. Additionally, Phase Two of the GTE project will start this year, with plans for a Natural Gas Liquids plant and expansion to 600MW. Five firms have been prequalified to bid for this phase, which will develop the Wales Industrial Estate.
