Gwen Parry-Jones to Step Down as CEO of Great British Energy Nuclear

NUCLEAR

Gwen Parry-Jones, the esteemed CEO of Great British Energy Nuclear (GBE N), is set to conclude her tenure on September 30th, a decision anticipated since the inception of the organization. As one of its founding figures, Parry-Jones has been instrumental in guiding GBE N through its transformative journey from a fledgling startup to a recognized entity within the energy sector. Under her leadership, GBE N has not only secured crucial sites but also navigated a comprehensive technology selection process and successfully attracted government funding to initiate the UK's small modular reactor (SMR) fleet.

Her tenure exemplified the power of collaborative efforts within the nuclear industry, a principle she championed during her time with GBE N, which she joined on secondment from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). As she prepares to return to the NDA on October 1st, the industry reflects on her significant contributions, recognizing her vision, energy, and deep expertise in nuclear energy as vital to GBE N's establishment and growth.

The organization is currently in the process of appointing a new CEO and will announce the successor in due course. In the interim, Neil Cooper, GBE N's Chief Financial Officer, will assume the role of accounting officer and chair the executive committee, ensuring that continuity and support remain a priority for all teams involved.

A focused interim steering group, comprising a select few members of the executive team, will concentrate on project delivery and report directly to GBE N Chair Simon Bowen. Parry-Jones leaves behind a solid foundation for the future of the SMR initiative in the UK, and her legacy will undoubtedly resonate as GBE N advances into its next chapter.
