Gwinnett County Public Schools has finalized the installation of weapon detection systems across all middle and high schools, completing a $20 million project initiated last fall. The Evolv systems deployed utilize sensors and artificial intelligence to detect potential threats, allowing students to pass through without emptying their pockets.
X-ray machines are also used to scan backpacks. Between July 2022 and February 2023, the district reported finding five guns and other weapons on campuses. The systems are currently limited to middle and high schools, with plans to potentially expand to elementary schools in the future.
