Gyeongbuk Province to Enhance Development with Advanced Industries and Tourism Initiatives by 2026

DEFENSE

Gyeongbuk Province plans to enhance development efficiency through advanced industries including artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors by 2026. A briefing session outlined five key directions for provincial administration, focusing on forming 'five major advanced industry alliance cities' based on local strengths.

Pohang, Gyeongju, and Andong will align for AI and semiconductors, while other cities will focus on defense, biotechnology, future vehicles, and energy. The province will establish the Gyeongbuk Investment Agency to attract large-scale investments.

Additionally, the 'Yeongnam Region Joint Development Policy' will enhance transportation and connectivity. The cultural sector will see 'post-APEC' tourism projects, and the province aims to attract high-end hotels and promote regional foods.

Population strategies will address low birthrates and aging, with a council to respond to demographic changes. Key accomplishments for 2025 include successful APEC hosting and achieving a Grade 1 cleanliness rating.
