Hainan Plans Tropical Marine National Park to Enhance Marine Conservation

NATURAL GASWIND ENERGY

Hainan province in China plans to establish a tropical marine national park, representing a shift towards integrating marine conservation into the national park system. This initiative follows the January 1 implementation of the national park law, which allows the inclusion of marine areas.

Hainan is home to diverse ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangroves, and the park aims to enhance marine conservation efforts. The province's ocean economy grew by 7.9% last year, supported by the deep-sea oil and gas industry, which saw significant production increases.

Offshore crude output reached 611,100 tons, a 125% rise from 2024, while natural gas output increased by 62%. Offshore wind power projects also contributed to a 306% increase in the marine power industry's value.
