HAL's Dhruv Helicopter Production Extended Amid Challenges for New Leadership
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited plans to extend the production of the Dhruv helicopter for 8-10 years, reinforcing its role in India's defense. New HAL Chief Kota Ravi faces internal challenges that could impact the helicopter's production efficiency and future competitiveness.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will extend the production of its Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv for an additional 8-10 years, maintaining operations through the mid-2030s. The Dhruv has surpassed 440 deliveries, becoming essential to India's military fleet, with recent orders from the Indian Coast Guard and Pawan Hans enhancing its multi-mission capabilities.
However, new Chairman Kota Ravi must address internal challenges, including procurement practices that prioritize cost over quality, and a lack of accountability in material management systems. The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies remains inconsistent, potentially hindering production efficiency. Reforming these areas is crucial for HAL to enhance the Dhruv's global competitiveness and support India's defense objectives.
