Hanwha Ocean and Thordon Bearings Sign MOU for Canadian Submarine Program
Hanwha Ocean and Thordon Bearings have entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore collaboration on the Canadian Patrol Submarine Program (CPSP) and other maritime projects. This partnership aims to enhance domestic capabilities in submarine subsystems and lifecycle support, with significant implications for Canada's naval defense infrastructure.
Hanwha Ocean and Thordon Bearings have signed an MOU focused on cooperation in the Canadian Patrol Submarine Program (CPSP) and various maritime initiatives. The CPSP is among the largest conventional submarine procurements globally, with Hanwha Ocean identified as one of two qualified suppliers by the Canadian government.
The agreement emphasizes developing local capabilities in Canada for submarine subsystems, contingent on final program awards. Thordon Bearings, based in Burlington, Ontario, provides oil-free bearing technologies used by over 50 navies and coast guards worldwide. The collaboration may bolster Canada's sovereign defense capabilities and open avenues for future export opportunities to international naval forces.
