Hanwha Systems Secures EO Targeting Pod Contract for KF-21 Fighter Jet
Hanwha Systems has finalized a 92 billion won ($62.6 million) contract for the mass production of an EO targeting pod for the KF-21 fighter jet, continuing through November 2028. This contract marks a significant advancement in South Korea's defense capabilities, making it the third nation to develop such technology after the U.S. and France.

Hanwha Systems has contracted with Korea Aerospace Industries to mass-produce an electro-optical targeting pod (EO TGP) for the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet. Valued at approximately 92 billion won ($62.6 million), the contract extends until November 30, 2028.
The EO TGP enhances target detection and supports precision strikes, essential for modern air combat. South Korea's achievement in developing this complex technology, initiated in 2016, positions it among advanced nations capable of such systems.
The incorporation of over 70 types of lenses and a sapphire optical window improves operational efficiency and survivability. The advancement may reduce reliance on foreign technology in defense.
