Harbin Unveils AI-Powered Laser Systems for Drone Defense
Harbin Xinguang Optic Electronics Technology has introduced the Lijian II and Lijian III portable laser systems aimed at neutralizing small drones. These innovations signify a transition toward cost-effective, infantry-friendly directed energy solutions in air defense.

The Lijian II and Lijian III laser systems, weighing 25 to 30 kilograms each, are designed for quick deployment by one or two soldiers to counter low-altitude drone threats. Operating at approximately 2 kilowatts, these systems can engage targets within 500 meters, disabling a drone in about four seconds by applying thermal energy.
They utilize AI-assisted targeting, processing data from radar and optical sensors for automatic detection and engagement. The shift to such systems addresses the limitations of conventional missile-based and electronic jamming methods in modern tactical scenarios. However, challenges remain, including line of sight requirements and reduced effectiveness against coordinated drone swarms.
